King's House.

Information on the hamlet of Kingshouse on the West Highland Way in Scotland UK.

Kingshouse sits beside the main route between Fort William and Glasgow, just before the entrance to Glen Coe. It is one of Scotland's oldest licensed inns having been built in the 1600's as a Drover's Inn. Its present name came from it being used as a barracks by government troops in 1745 after the Battle of Culloden when the highland clans were defeated. It's not a village, just a few outbuildings grouped around the 22 roomed hotel, which has a drying room and laundry for residents use. This area of the WHW is the most awesome of all the stages and is the favourite of many walkers for its overpowering and awe inspiring scenic grandeur.
