  On the Way
On the Way.jpg
A few miles into the walk and the Way winds through some of the worn-down extinct volcanoes. The one in view here Dumgoyach ( Fort Goyach ), is much smaller than the remains of volcanoes and old lava flows just outside and to the right of this photograph. Also outside this photograph and to the right is a man made Stone Age feature called the 'Dumgoyach Standing Stones'.
The Romans had a fort here to give the Antonine Wall advance warning of war parties coming down the WHW.
